This is one of two books in a series edited by Robert Cowley. The other book in the series is:
Review of More What If?:

This book is a second volume that follows on from What If, which was put together by the same editor. Also known as "What If 2", this book is an anthology of fairly serious-minded counterfactual scenarios for various pivotal events in history (although I have doubts about whether the scenario relating to Jesus is appropriate, or can be discussed properly without mixing in people's religious beliefs). Unlike its predecessor, More What If includes both military-and non-military scenarios.

The scenarios in the book are generally well-written and interesting, although many cover territory that has previously been well-trodden in other alternate history books. The book doesn't focus on any particular historical era, which for some people will be a positive, but for others will be seen as a negative.

Here is a list of the scenarios in the book. I have included the subtitles as well, which in most cases should give you a fair idea about what each scenario is about:
  1. Socrates Dies at Delium, 424 B.C - The consequences of a single battle casualty - by Victor Davis Hanson

  2. Not by a Nose - THe triumph of Antony and Cleopatra at Actium, 31 B.C. - by Josiah Ober

  3. Pontius Pilate Spares Jesus - Christianity without the Crucifixion - by Carlos M. N. Eire

  4. Repulse at Hastings, October 14, 1066 - William does not conquer England - by Cecelia Holland

  6. Martin Luther Burns at the Stake, 1521 - "O God, is Luther dead?" - by Geoffrey Parker

  7. If Charles I Had Not Left Whitehall, August 1641 - As a starter, no English civil war - by Theodore K. Rabb

  8. Napoléon's Invasion of North America - Aedes aegypti takes a holiday, 1802 - by Thomas Fleming

  9. If Lincoln Had Not Freed the Slaves - The inevitable results of no Emancipation Proclamation - by Tom Wicker

  10. France Turns the Other Cheek, July 1870 - The needless war with Prussia - by Alistair Horne

  11. The Election of Theodore Rooesevelt, 1912 - Brokering an earlier end to World War I - by John Lukacs

  12. The Great War Torpedoed - The weapon that could have the war for Germany in 1915 - by Robert L. O'Connell
